Why it’s against the law to dump sand on
your shoreline!
This was sent in by a concerned
cottager on the lake.
Before the cottage season officially starts, I think we can all do
our part to control the algae in the water.
1. Insist on biodegradable, phosphate free soaps, cleaners, shampoos etc.
We should make this a rule on the lake, that only these types of
products be used.
2. An old septic system may have been 'grandfathered' and legal on
paper according to the Ministry, however, algae doesn't care whether the
septic system is legal or not. People should realize that their
septic system could be contributing to the algae in the lake.
3. When landscaping, ban the use of fertilizers on grass, plants etc.
If we all did our part, we could minimize and hopefully eliminate the algae
in the lake.
Thanks,
Wise words to live by!
